Today, little assessment in the class after 3 months of training with Bob !
This discussion was very productive and allows us to have a look on all we made during the class and on our blog.

Personally, I have discover different notions as RSS and DRM which are important in our courses and in the sector I want to work too. So courses of english appears complementary to the others. Thanks to english I also discover that using Netvibes was not uneasy, and now I use it everyday.

For the next courses I would like to know how to do my resume and express my main tasks in last internships with professional vocabulary. I hope I could find a job / internship abroad, especially in an english speaking country : UK, USA, Canada, Australia....

E-buzz is our wiki, which allow all the team to work togheter. We deals with different topics, but mainly with the 12 principles of Killer Apps (see below) and what mash up is.

- Create communities of value : Go on my links and discover the both communities of Viadeo or Myspace

- Replace rude interfaces with learning interfaces : companies try to develop interfaces which call more your feeling than your brain ! Jamendo for example uses tags to help you to doscover Music you like.

- Ensure continuity for the customer : SNCF, travel companie, continue to propose their phone number everywhere durind the purchase process online. It reassures customers.

- Give away as much information as possible : online content is really profitable for companies but also for customers. This information need to be rich and doesn't cost anything to companies. Enhancing this content can improve your profotability by reduce other costs like hotline...

- Structure every transaction as a joint venture : so based on mutual benefits. Customers need to think the transaction is a deal, like newsletter...

- Treat your assets as liabities : especially if your in the sector of e-technologies, you need to innove to keep your assets.

- Destroy your value : internet allows companies to find new way of selling. I.e. the recommendation of books on Amazon play role of seller in shops !

- Manage innovation as a portfolio of options : innovations are linked to risks, so it's interesting to create different "brand" [ Sony, Playstation, Music...]. It xarrants more visibility too.

- Hire the children : today's children are really different by using new technologies since they're born, so not as the generation before. Companies need their view to be more innovative, that's why they call them and work with.

Our situation of discussing through Msn with our teacher this year in english class is really different from what we all knew before.
This kind of relationship has its quality :

in touch with new technologies,
working on a blog,
and try to find out questions about NTIC and websites news.

But there are some things we could improve :
sometimes it's not easy to understand the teacher trough the microphone, Msn can met a bug,
dialogue is never really installed in the class. Students never talk together, there is no debate on a subject, where everybody can have the time to express itself and argue.
the lack of relationship with the teacher is a problem too, as we never correct our faults or talk with him/her about daily subjects, just friendly conversation.
Through Msn, expression and words of teacher could be too direct. And as we don't have relationship with him/her, we don't know really how we have to take it. It's not easy to be at ease and to find a place.

By conclusion, I think we could try to support exchanges between students too, by group work for example, or trough debates. We could talk about different subjects, more or less linked to new technologies.

Watch series, movies, informations in english... or even more : a trip in UK??? What a great idea, no?

RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication.
RSS is a web feed format. “A web feed is a data format used for serving users frequently updated content. Content distributors syndicate a web feed, thereby allowing users to subscribe to it. Making a collection of web feeds accessible in one spot is known as aggregation.”

Netvibes is a good example of the use we can do with RSS.

Netvibes allows us to create personal space by choosing subjects which interested us and placing them where we want on a page.
After, for all subjects you have chosen, you enter the “RSS URL” (you can find it on the top of the page of the source). It will allow Netvibes to update your personal space by adding the news which appeared on the website source. Finally, every time you go on your personal space, news you don’t have seen appeared bold. You can so consult them without getting on the website source.

According Wikipedia, “cybercrime is a term used broadly to describe criminal activity in which computers or networks are a tool, a target, or a place of criminal activity”.

Thus, the most important examples are:
- P2P,
- Identity theft,
- Copyright,
- Spamming,
- Child pornography…
But also:
- Hackers action: access controls, malicious codes, securities fraud, netspionage…

I think strange examples could be spamming we receive from people who ask for money by explaining they are in a serious situation: healthy problems, war… They use network to sensitize you through a “personal” email, telling us “I’m a poor people who need you to survive…” or “My child is sad and I need you to save her, please send this email to all people you can…”
This kind of spamming allows people to gain a database and not to save anyone. They use power of network and sensitize people to make money.

I’m personally touched by this kind of email, but I never forward them. But I don’t think being reached by another kind of cybercrime and I hope it will continue. To prevent this, I pay attention of all informations I give on websites, especially on infamous websites.

But I may be guilt by using P2P!

YouTube is a website, specialised in video sharing. The company was created in 2005 by 3 last employees of Paypal. These 3 engineers success and sold their company to Google for an amount of 1.65 billion dollars.

Today, Youtube is the leader on its market and is very appreciated by the visitors.

The key of the success is the simplicity to share files and video and to access to others thanks to the technology Flash. Consequently, you don’t have to download the files to look at. You just have to click. Videos are sorted with key words and all the users can comment them and vote.

Youtube is a good example of website of which content is directly created by users.

Youtube also success thanks to the environment and the emergence and development of personal blogs. Through key words you find quantity of videos that you can integrate easily to your blog.

Personally I use it once a week (average), especially to enrich my blog by adding video examples. But also simply by looking for unseen video or emissions I can’t see on TV, directly from the website.

In the future, Youtube could become a important media more integrated in brand strategy. This kind of website becomes champion in broadcasting and more and more famous. We can think that Brand or old media could use it to be more in touch with young people and to use the bigger capacity to be visible.
For example : a TV channel which wants to launch a new series could choose not to broadcast it on TV but to launch it through the web thanks to Youtube. Consequently, the series will be more visible could be looking several times and not at a precise schedule. Visibility will be increased and affinity too, by using network. Business model will change with this kind of tools. We can think ad could be add at the beginning of the serie or directly in the series by products placements.

By definition, Internet is a worldwide media.
It is using by billions of people connected from different countries, with different cultures and languages. In front of this multicultural communication, humans have always try to find a unique way to communicate.
English is the language of international communication, so everything on the Internet is in english.

Actually, to use internet means using english. For example, every french go on the "WEB" and they're not talking about a "toile". And every time you meet someone on an international website, the reflex is to talk in english. But internet is also a way to obtain contain in english : websites, but also real books which are rare or expensive in France (example : limited choices of books in Fnac stores...).
On the internet you can find library in english and find interesting books

Moreover, internet is a mean to meet people from different countries. On forums or websites, you could meet people from other countries, and if you don't speak the same language the one you will use will be english.
Consequently, you could improve your english easily. MSN or Skype will help you to have live conversations and to develop your reflex in english. You also can use webcam and microphone to improve oral communication.

Finally, Internet contains lots of websites which are made to improve our english. Users of e-technologies are aware of the importance of controlling their english to be operational in their sector. But now t's in every sectors where you need to have a good level or to be fluent in english. For example, today you can test your level in live thanks to specific webite, you can prepare the TOEFL or TOEIC, you can see videos, listen conversations... a kind of virtual school with virtual professor!

Identity theft is a punished crime in our countries. It consists to make the others believes you are a person you aren't. Important people have more risk to be victims than ordinary people. With the new technologies, identity theft seems to be easier, especially if you're a professional of data-processing.

On one hand, we all have personal contains on the internet. We all have email / blog /websites access, with login and personal code. Even if you have a protection code, hackers could enter in your space and use your email to send something, or even just add your email in a forum and take your place. Everyone could add contain to your personal space. Results will be that others will believe it's you who write this page or this email, it's you who tells these ideas...
With Internet we must pay attention about our code and change it regularly. Deconnexion is also a step which mustn't be forgotten.

On the other hand, new technologies allow us to lye about who we are. What prevent us not to say we are "financial director of Nike" or "Sharon Stone" or a "specialist in ecology"?
New technologies don't check the truth. So I can today create a blog about ecology and give advices to my visitors by telling them I'm a professional! It's possible, and could be more serious.
That's a kind of identity theft, Internet doesn't allow us to check with who we are talking, who speaks on a blog… that's one of the limit of the internet.

Personally, to prevent this problem, I change my code every month and always pay attention to be really deconnected. Especially when I'm on a banq website, where my personal account number are visible. Moreover, when I have to pay online, I always check the icon "bolt" is present at the bottom of the page, to be sure this page is protected.
But I'm not an important people and except financial aspects, I don't see why people would take my place!

Everybody wasn’t born with a mouse in his hand. Consequently for the majority of people, to use Internet requires training. New tools of communication use different codes that we need to integrate to correctly use it. The time of comprehension, as digestion, depends on the identity and the culture of people. There are no rules.

Personally, I use everyday Internet and mobile phone, but even if I’m only 23 years old, I’m not at ease with WAP, and I never use this technology.

People are afraid of what they don’t know, of doing mistakes. That’s the reason why e-technologies need to be accompanying by a pedagogic speech to allow it to emerge and to be adopted.

On the Internet we are facing to more than 3 billions pages of information.
Fortunately some tools as search engines were created to help us (Yahoo! , Google…). So researches are simplified but not always easy.

Not easy because if the information is sorted, search engines propose nevertheless hundred of pages to us.

Thus perseverance will help you to consider all this pages, not to discourage yourself and to continue to reach your goal and finally find your information.

In electronic culture, contain is changing at every second and sources are multiple.
As a consequence your Insight is your asset to use correctly these tools. Have a look to the following examples:

- In a case of research your insight will help you to sort bad and good information, to trust in a serious source. It’s very important to detect who is the author and what is him legitimity to express himself on a subject. Without this quality you will be lost in a quantity of informations, but worst your research isn’t worth anything.

Example : all the personal blogs give us informations about all subjects, we have to pay attention about the position of the author. (french political website)

- In a case of purchase, like auction sale, your insight will help you to be reactive and in touch. This insight is necessary when one click is so important.

Personally, I don’t think it’s the most widespread quality on the Internet. Discipline is for me linked to a respect of laws, what is not the case today. Downloading is not legal but everybody use P2P without hiding.

But that’s my first impression, I realize after that we need discipline in a first way to use tools as computers, Mp3… , because these are fragile tools. Since our childhood adults help us to understand all electronic tools need patience and attention.

Patience… Because internet is not so a revolution in time-spending.
Lots of companies, working on the internet, use “time sharing” as a value to communicate. But in reality, Internet is not so the best way to share time.
We have to live with problem of connexion, time to download, time to fill out lots of questionnaires, time to wait for our goods, and why not time to spend at the post office to recover our products… after recovering these, we could face to mistakes in the command or problems to correctly use products!

Moreover most of these companies don’t have any real shops, consequently we have to phone hotlines opened from 8h to 22h and which cost a lot. And it will be only after 15 minutes (average) that you could hope to resolve your problem. After spending time, you spend money!

By conclusion we really need to be patient in electronic culture.

I think generosity is really present in e-culture.
Everybody on the internet prove it by sharing his own files. So we could say that P2P is "THE" tool of generosity: you’re aware you receive something from others, and to thank them you also share and help others.An other example could be forum. These virtual places help people to socialize but also to resolve some problems. Lots of people spend time to speak to others and to try to help them.

Maybe, this network could become more closed to specific groups, as lots of people like to preserve their place in society and not being mixed with everybody... it could be a possibillity.
